Everyday’s the Fourth of July

The Fourth of July is almost here again – and when it falls on a Saturday, that only compounds that feeling of freedom that the weekend brings! This is one of my favorite times of the year for many reasons. There is the great food we enjoy, the barbecues, the fun parades, and of course, the awesome sights and sounds of all the fireworks displays around town. But most importantly, it is a time to reflect on the greatness of our country.

As a business owner, it is easy to get caught up in the busy days and nights that seem to fly by. Being a business owner is challenging, but that’s what I like about it. As an American, I’m proud to have the opportunity and privilege to be challenged everyday in running my own business. As the owner of Roger’s Plumbing, I also get to serve others on a daily basis; both customers and employees. I truly feel that I get to make the world a better place through my business, and I’m proud to share those values with my employees. When I hire them on, I train them for service calls over the course of a few weeks. I always say, however, that I never stop training them during the entirety of their careers here. I’m always encouraging my team to sharpen their communications skills, to work well with each other, to put in good, quality work, and hopefully, they leave here as better people in general. This is important to me, as I never felt I encountered a work environment like this when I was working for others as an employee. My team members are more than just employees to me, they are my friends. And if they’re happy, I know my clients will be happy in turn as well.

The feeling of doing good in the world is really quite gratifying and I can’t say that I would have this same opportunity if I lived anywhere else in the world. It’s why I want to keep that enthusiasm going each and every day. So while a lot of people recall the first line of that song by the group Chicago, “Saturday in the park. I think it was the Fourth of July”, remember that the final verse invites to carry that feeling of optimism throughout the year: “Every day’s the Fourth of July.”

Keep sparkling, America. And Happy Birthday!
